Right's idea of wholesome:

Nobody swears or talks about sex

Race, class, and gender hierarchies are unquestioned

Nothing is dirty or worn

People are encouraged to talk about their relationship with Jesus

Law enforcement or soldiers are present and praised

Left's idea of wholesome:

Diversity is explicitly represented and welcomed

Everyone constantly affirms each other

People are encouraged to talk about their feelings

Cartoon animals (or people dressed as them) are present and cooed over

@peterdrake I did it manually. But the way I did it was going to my profile, click on 'Following', and then just click on the subscribe buttons of everyone in that list down there (except those on Qoto, I skip those as that's not necessary, unless Freemo manages to fuck up something royally with this codebase. :D)

@freemo

Creatives (including game developers) and engineers (including software developers) agree: get a minimal rough draft out there ASAP, then iterate.

The difference is in how stable each iteration has to be. This is what makes video game development so much harder than tabletop: changing a design idea is really expensive.

@freemo @peterdrake

Qoto has a little workaround where you can 'keep' those connections from your end. Follow _and_ subscribe to them. If there's a brief (accidental) suspension, you're still seeing them via subscription. They won't be following you anymore, of course. But at least you could see who you're not following anymore (as the follow icon won't be colored).

I'm contemplating doing that to all I follow. :P You won't be seeing stuff double or anything that I've seen.

This (accidental, temporary) blocking also hit me. It even cut me off from my spouse! (Fortunately, she's right across the breakfast table.)

Is there any way to reconnect (or even enumerate) these severed connections? Nobody on either end was notified.

Always fun to see the side-effect of a server-wide suspension. :P mstdn.social blocked qoto.org for a bit, so everybody from there that I was follo...

I expect that, like last time, I'll be voting for someone else in the primary and Biden in the general. Since I live in Oregon, neither of these votes will matter -- in the strong sense in the primary, since the race will have already been decided, and in the weak sense in the general, because Oregon will definitely go to the Democrat.

The first problem could be fixed by having everyone vote at once or at least randomizing the order. The second could be fixed by a national popular vote.

Here @pluralistic explains, among other things, why he posts threads the way he does.

Incidentally, the fact that I'm quote-tooting here proves one of Doctorow's points: people with the skills and/or funds (In this case, I believe, @freemo) can modify Mastodon to add features.

Good article on mastodon tools from @pluralistic https://doctorow.medium.com/how-to-make-the-least-worst-mastodon-threads-daa33943ac31

dear #mastodon,

which timeline/feature do you tend to spend the most time on?

p.s. please consider boosting for a more meaningful sample size.

:hmmm:

Do people get together online for #sketchbookart sessions?

I have enjoyed mob #programming for the past two years.
Now I'm inspired by youtu.be/K1Mf2XQhbog
and I wonder if anyone wants to do it together?
