Not dead, just tired and shagged out after some prolonged vandalism.

I have a pair of sweatpants that fell down if I put anything in the pockets. The elastic is worn, but more importantly the drawstring had somehow come out.

I found a long shoelace and managed to string it through by taping it to a knitting needle.

I have therefore kept one (1) pair of sweatpants out of the landfill.

Really, I deserve a Nobel for this.

(The knitting needle was @htdrake's idea, but taking credit for a woman's work would be on-brand for a Nobel.)

We ought to move Pride to late August so it literally goes before the Fall.

On June 2, 1863, 160 years ago today, Harriet Tubman commanded 300 Black soldiers in the audacious Raid on Combahee Ferry. With the Union Army backing , The General, as she was called, liberated 800 people, destroyed supplies, and struck a blow against the Confederacy. She became the FIRST woman in U.S. history to plan and execute an armed expedition, inspiring joy and freedom among over 800 enslaved people.

You can have a lone creeper, but for some reason you never run into an individual jeeper.

it turns out I actually have a second email at UCLA, and it is jam packed with notifications that i may have been exposed to COVID. that rocks, but not as much as the fact that they tell me to check their covid case "dashboard" which is a literal docx file in Microsoft Box. Since a .docx file is not, in fact, a dashboard, they have to include the table of reported cases twice to sort by date and location.

I wondered how they knew my location to tell that i might have been exposed, and it turns out they don't -- it looks like I get a notification for every time any covid case is detected in the entire medical school (which is massive).

I didn't know I had this email because I can't login to it via their Microsoft SaaS, so I have to log into their Google SaaS and click a link to take me back to the Microsoft SaaS where I have to log in again because the SaaS can't persist credentials between tabs i guess.

this university's information infrastructure is so broken i can't laugh or cry but just stare in awe.

Dear fellow people. I know we all hate it when users give us vague error reports like "it's not working!".
But how often do you go out of your way to thank them when they get it right and send you an error message with a screenshot and reproduction steps?

If you don't do this already, I highly recommend starting ASAP. Even for the most technical users, it's helpful to perform this simple action as *positive reinforcement* for doing things right. Training users to be better at their jobs makes all of *our* jobs easier as a result.

But, as an added bonus, people seem to like being thanked! So, it also makes them like you more as a side effect ("oh, (s)he's not one of those grouchy IT people!").

The part of the brain that thinks about starting fires is the zippocampus.

I really appreciate image descriptions when my mobile wifi is shit and all that loads is the text description and not the image. Amazing how designing for disabled folks is better for everyone.
