Interesting read from Communications of the @ACM on measuring the carbon footprint of artificial intelligence. In the article, they reference an open source tool, Code Carbon, to measure carbon impacts, which is pretty neat.
But, they also estimate that AI contributes between 2.1-3.9% of total greenhouse gas emissions.
Reading this, I wonder: is society benefiting from this cost? Sure, it is small comparatively, but right now every percentage point matters.
We finally got our deluxe copy of Leaf to the table. I really like it! Adding leaves to the forest floor is more strategic than I expected. Both the turn and game length felt just right.
It's definitely one of the most beautiful games we own. The leaves and the animals are true works of art.
I was also surprised by how much I like the boxes to hold the components rather than a plastic insert or bags. I'm sure they will show wear, but they feel compact, tidy, and... right.

My daughter inherited a pair of my cargo pants a while ago and spent a good hour yelling HOW DO YOU HAVE SO MANY POCKETS, THIS IS AMAZING, THE POCKETS EVEN HAVE POCKETS IN THEM AND MY HANDS FIT ALL THE WAY INTO _THOSE POCKETS_
RHS Fun Fact: During the filming of the Rocky Horror Picture Show the cast and crew had an easter egg hunt - but did not find them all. As a result some of them were still on the set during filming and you can find them throughout the film. There is some debate - but many say this is where the term "Easter Egg" originated for those little hidden bits in film and TV shows.
“Productivity is a trap. Becoming more efficient just makes you more rushed and trying to clear the decks simply makes them fill up again… Since finitude defines our lives…living a truly authentic life—becoming fully human—means facing up to that fact.”
