Ah, so you're an #RStats user? name every package then
Hi, my name is Rodney Smith, and this is the Watch It Played Mastodon account! For some reason, I always mistype it as Mastadon by default, so that's going to be a fun thing to unlearn.

The bird site was the main social media platform I used. Keen to explore an alternative and find some of my friends from there over here - and make some new ones!

Local election win: we're going to have #RankedChoiceVoting in elections in #Portland #Oregon!
Too bad it wasn't already in place statewide. The governor's race is a nail-biter, and we'll never know the second choices of the 8%+ of people who voted for the unaffiliated candidate.
Things look bad for Jamie McLeod-Skinner for US House District 5, but there are still plenty of votes left to count.
You all are smart and interesting, so I'd love to hear some #book recommendations! Here are some of my favorites that I've read in the last year or so.

The headline is interesting, and adversarial attacks on #AI are a real thing, but this looks like a cheap trick:
It depends on KataGo not even looking ahead two moves to the reply to its pass. It almost seems like a rules dispute, where KataGo is assuming (as is the case in normal human games) that dead stones will be removed at the end of the game. If the adversary is claiming those lone black stones are alive, some sort of dispute resolution system should kick in.
I'm using Google #Colab (cloud-hosted #Jupyter notebooks) in my first-year seminar where students are learning #Python.
A couple of them are reporting that their work is not being saved and they have to redo it. I can't tell what happened because, of course, I don't find out until after the fact. Frustrating for me and, I'm sure, much moreso for them.

Mastodon (the band) is probably wondering why they're suddenly so popular.

Want to play a political puzzle game on election day? Check out Gerrymander, which I did as part of a game jam a while back.

America has done some wonderful things and some terrible things, but perhaps our greatest accomplishment was the peaceful transfer of power after the 1800 election.
For me, the most patriotic holiday is election day, when (ideally) every American gets an equal say in determining the future of the nation. Yes, the system has flaws (e.g., the Electoral College), but it's a laudable ideal to strive for.
Hold your head high and cast your vote. You may not get all the outcomes you want, but neither will anyone else. The alternatives are much, much worse.
Every morning when #OPB comes on the radio and Casey Negreiff announces, "It's 6:01," I think, "... and half a dozen o' the other."
A reminder for anyone new to mastodon who might not be happy with some of the racist and bad actors out there on other servers... Just import the fediblock list to your personal blocks and you will be safe from the vast majority of bad actors.
Me: There's a concern that, with so many #MachineLearning PhDs being snapped up by industry, there won't anyone to train the next generation of researchers.
Colleague: I guess they'll just have to use .... unsupervised learning.
