In 2023 we're going to do a challenge.

There's a new letter every two weeks, starting with A on Jan 1. During that fortnight, we'll play at least one game that starts with that letter.

(Yes, we have all the letters covered in our collection. Digits are spelled out, so 7 Wonders is filed under S.)

Who's with us?

1. Took for a walk.
2. A bubble bath.
3. Continuing to make progress toward torch juggling.

Never forget, electric cars are here to save the car industry, not the planet.

@joshuatopolsky It’s not just links to Mastodon. It happened to me just using the word mastodon in another context. My link was actually to a story about mastodon DNA being sequenced at the MIT Technology Review

“You can find us anywhere you get your podcasts.”

I *adore* this phrase, because it has been like two whole-ass decades and not one single venture capital darling has managed to unseat plain RSS as the distribution method for podcasts. Not one. (And they have really tried!)

Podcasts are just out there, like air. You don’t go to one place to get them; you get them from everywhere and anywhere. You can choose how you want to engage with them and manage them and it is legitimately heartwarming that nothing has ever gotten in the way of that being a fundamental fact.

This is the best of what the web is. It will never have a stock ticker or even a marketing scheme. Most people don’t even know it is there. But it endures (past the many, many attempts by squillionaire corporates to kill it) because of its absolute unshakable utility.

My suggestion: any time you hear “anywhere you get your podcasts”, send a little thanks to RSS for keeping the real web alive.

In advance of the next inevitable uproar over a BIPOC person being cast in a fantasy movie/TV show, I will invite everybody to pre-chill out and review similar “non-accuracies” that have occurred to canonically Brown and Black skinned characters.

1. That wonderful time time of the academic year when you can do more work than is arriving.
2. Time for a dog walk.
3. A few successful four-toss sequences juggling (unlit) torches.

Wait ... we can't even search for hashtags in our own toots now? Didn't that work previously? Is this a specific thing?

1. Strong presentations from the students in the first-year seminar.
2. One of them told me, "This class totally slapped!"
3. All my Xistmas shopping is done.

England and France should call a Christmas truce in the middle of the soccer game to sing songs and play a friendly soccer game

Sell a man a fish, and he pays you for a day. Sell a man a subscription to a proprietary fishing system, and he pays you for the rest of your life.

An important reminder at this time of year:
You are under no obligation to maintain a tradition that you do not enjoy or cannot afford.
