I also have noticed this. To be fair, the United Kingdom does much the same.

So much for my plan to eat my way through all the cheeses in the Python Cheeseshop Sketch, unless I go to the UK to do it...
(I have a weird coincidence tale to tell about that BTW)

It's very, very stupid.
At a small grocery in Portland's NW, bought a few things including a quarter pound of Caerphilly, then later wandered over to Thurman Street, went into the Public Library there, then into a used bookstore next door where I decided to buy a copy of Hugh Walpole's "Rogue Herries".
and it wasn't until I'd got home that I realized I had essentially reenacted the beginning of that sketch. That we even have a Public Library on Thurman Street and the tiny shop next door would have "Rogue Herries" is weird enough even without the cheese purchase.

I have an even weirder one relating to gunpowder, the Star Trek episode "Arena" and its author Fredric Brown
@pieist @simon_brooke @david_megginson @kevinrns that is truly scary
