We Danes are a friendly and probably somewhat naïve people, at least when it comes to national security. Here's a great example from the documentary series #Skyggekrigen (The Shadow War) (dr.dk/drtv/serie/skyggekrigen_): most likely a Russian soldier, armed with a rifle, on a #Russian ship in Danish waters, some 40km off the coast of Sealand. What's he doing here? #Spying on critical infrastructure, it would seem. Who found out? A journalist. We're screwed. #espionage #denmark

@saustrup I must admit, I used to be one of the naïve ones, but no more. Russia obviously does not want good relations with Europe and never did. We seriously need to be able to defend our democracy, rule of law and independence.

@mok0 You said it. We need sufficient naval presence to patrol our waters and we have to start taking security seriously. I too used to laugh it off, but the fact is that we're a smorgasbord of innovative information ripe for the picking by Russian spies and on top of that, we're right on Russia's path to the North Sea. That calls for at least some level basic level of #vigilance if you ask me.

Perhaps patrolling and monitoring the Baltic and Atlantic coasts of Europe should be a combined NATO operation. It seems like that would optimize the use of resources, improve intelligence sharing and response times, and not create inconsistencies and weak spots, nor limit a given patrol operation to territorial boundaries of a given country.
