I see the Guardian deletes comments that challenge the credentials of the brexity twats whose ignorant takes on #EVs make ideal weekend clickbait 🙄
@ottocrat If you're looking for a rebuttal to that Atkinson EV piece in the Guardian, here's one: https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2023/06/06/sorry-mr-bean-evs-are-better-choice/
(via @charlesarthur and his excellent Overspill newsletter)
@semiprime Thanks! though it’s too kind to Atkinson by far.
@semiprime This one’s even better. But I’m so angry that we should even be having this discussion. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/jun/07/petrol-diesel-engines-technology-electric-cars?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
@ottocrat @semiprime I thought Atkinson’s piece was so odd. The idea that it might be neutral to keep burning fossil fuels?
@charlesarthur @semiprime It was really odd, also odd that the G ran it given its manifest flaws. And the way Atkinson pitched himself as both an expert and a reluctant sceptic felt really off. Very damaging piece imo. https://eupolicy.social/@ottocrat/110496800771173372
@charlesarthur @ottocrat @semiprime "...in the 1980s"
@pieist @charlesarthur @ottocrat A quick Google reveals that Rowan Atkinson has an MSc in Electrical Engineering. Details of his thesis here: https://ntrl.ntis.gov/NTRL/dashboard/searchResults/titleDetail/N7924683.xhtml
It's from 1977. That's 8 years before the Sinclair C5.
Pardon me if I suspect that EV technology has advanced since then.
