A brief rant: One of my least favourite types of reply to a Mastodon post is a complaint about a paywall.

Part of my annoyance stems from the fact that quality journalism deserves financial support.

But also: It's 2023. There are myriad ways to get around paywalls if you're so inclined. Quit complaining and just figure it out.

@jbe Agreed, the complaints are useless noise, but in most cases, noting that it's a paid-subscriber-only link will save users a fruitless visit and head off some of those complaints.

A lot of us don't notice if something is subscriber-only if we're already subscribers or if we usually block JavaScript

@jbe It hasn't occurred to me in years to block javascript, given how much of the web doesn't work at all without it anymore.
