Personally I'm still trying to figure out why this complicated, friction-intensive arrangement is better than hub motors.

Yes, unsprung weight, but in the meantime I still have a superb car from 1996 in my driveway that handles magnificently and gets outstanding mileage... and has steel wheels and drum brakes in back. Unsprung weight is not ideal but it's not the end of the world if it provides sufficient other benefits.

@pieist Yes, I think you're right.

My thoughts were that this new design might be excessively heavy.
But also excessively complicated too.
