@beebrookshire Also, never been clear on why a galaxy far, far away had modern humans long, long ago, but they had to CGI out puffins in favor of hairy shmoos. Why one Earth mammal when no other Earth creature is permitted?

@jern Just so. Saith the prophet: "The answer is blockchain. Now what was the question?"

@jern At a guess, scale, complexity, and resourcing. Who'd store all the indexes, how would they be updated? I'm just talking off the top of my head, but I'd find it extremely challenging to design a federated search.

I'd like to live in the world where the pedestrian lights are green by default, and the drivers have to press a button and wait ages for the lights to change.

If in a post- Sarah Everard universe, UK police are trying to indicate they take violence against women seriously, they're going the wrong way about it.

I'm old enough to remember when Yahweh, AKA "Jehovah", was a subordinate war god in a proto-Judaic pantheon.

@pattykimura @StillIRise1963 I'm in Portland, Oregon in 2023, in what was once called a mixed marriage, and a few of my neighbors still have emotional problems with it.

If anyone's going to use AI for anything, Amazon should be using it to discard non-answers to product questions. I've just been looking some questions where every single answer, faithfully auto-published by Amazon, boils down to "I don't know."

You should hear the Western Scrub Jays chewing out the cat. He didn't even notice, at first -- a yappy bird is just more background noise to him. Then one day I said to a jay that was on our porch railing giving him what-for, "you certainly are a talky one, aren't you?" Stanley (the cat)'s eyes got huge, he looked at me and back at the bird as if to say "wait, that's a person?" After that, when he came strolling by and the jay yelled at him, he'd turn and give it a little meow of acknowledgement.

IRL I've taken to cutting off people who lead with an unsolicited opinion on complex topics I've no reason to believe they understand particularly well. I've no patience for it anymore, and it's just constant nowadays.

@kongk @AnnemarieBridy Crows have really grown on me over the years. I think they're extremely cute and they're pretty friendly once they get to know you.

@lpah4all @taylorlorenz Since it consists mostly of market valuation, his money's partly theoretical. The moment he tries to realize it, it starts to shrink.

@brucehankins @taylorlorenz

Yeah, switch me over to the other billionaire, the one who famously said, when offering to give away his users personal information, "they 'trust' me. Dumb fucks."

Star Wars prequel 1: "That was pretty terrible."
Star Wars prequel 2: "My god, that was unspeakably bad."
Star Wars prequel 3... "wait, I know, how about simply not going to see it at all?"

Repeat entire process for The Hobbit trilogy.

I have a similar rationale for not trying out Threads.

"Piracy can't be stealing if paying for it isn't owning"

This is increasingly how it feels, when streaming shows disappear for tax reasons and things you "own" digitally become inaccessible.

Thank you @Illuminatus for this quote.
