@chris Well, don't let me ruin it for you. I had much the same problem with the later editions of Netflix' Marvel series. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Punisher 1 & 2 were all great but some of the rest, notably Iron Fist, were so full of dreary filler and padding that I couldn't keep watching.

Been trying here and there to watch the third series of on . It feels terribly padded: long conversations that don't reveal anything new, entire scenes and set pieces that backtrack rather than advance the plot. The first two series didn't have this problem. I might stop here in the middle of the third episode and see if the fourth series is any better.

@Puck @JohnShirley2023 I'm reminded of Tracy Morgan's story about when he found out he'd been added to the SNL cast, he moved out of his neighborhood that very night.

It occurred to me that the Spın̈al Tap quote from Nigel Tufnel, "none more black" would be a good band name. So I googled it. First result is a band that had the same thought.

That someone won $1.58 billion simply means that a great many people spent considerably more than that on a hopeless dream. Studies show most of them are pretty poor.

@ecosdelfuturo Thanks. (Deleted my previous reply, I was characterising your earlier link, not this one.)

As the tectonic plate loading adjusts due to rising seas and vanishing ice cover, expect a lot more earthquakes and volcanoes.

@Yoji @randahl Wouldn't it be nice if a judge actually responded this way when they ask for more time: "perhaps if you spent less time doing Sunday talk shows..."

Trump to Judge Chutkan: I cannot respond to the court with a 1 page reply in two days. I need 14 days.

Trump to Fox News: I can end the Ukriane war in 24 hours.

🤷🏻‍♂️

You never know how much you mutter while driving until you review your dashcam footage for the first time.

If someone is a bloviator is that which causes them to bloviate a bloviant?

@Timi@mstdn.plus All the same I'm probably not going to even jokingly address someone who's late with a deliverable as "you cunctator" in an open meeting without having the traditional "box of desk stuff" packed first.

Offhand I can think of two situations in which someone tells you "go stand in front of that brick wall", and only one of them is to do comedy. Though both can lead to "dying'" in some sense.

Trump announced in advance of the 2020 election that it would be rigged—because he was afraid he’d lose. Now he’s saying he can’t get a fair trial in D.C.—again because he’s afraid he’d lose. See the pattern?

I'm still waiting for to bring 's -legacy population of militarized elderlly 1970s-era into play on , to try to "" 's death by the power of wishful thinking.

It'd be about as effective and non-embarrassing as anything else he's tried.

@pieist @simonbp @nyrath When I was involved with the Asteroid Redirect Mission proposal a decade ago; one variation was to have a non-spinning spacecraft surround a spinning asteroid without touching it, seal the bag, and then very slowly despin the thing by pumping in nitrogen to create air drag and transfer the angular momentum to the shell to be canceled by thrusters.

That was quite complicated enough.

@BashStKid @yvesmoret

i very nearly let a local reseller put me into a white 1978 Jaguar XJS. It was correct and immaculate, other than being left hand steer for the US market.

But as a recovering restorer of a couple British Leyland sports cars, (let me know and I'll send you a link) I don't need that kind of pain. Besides, given how freaking huge it is, it's bloody tiny inside. Honestly, the P1800, at half its exterior dimensions, has more cabin room.

@michael_w_busch @simonbp @nyrath

2001's Discovery was comparable: the spinning ring portion of the habitat was wholly enclosed within the pressure vessel. It solved a lot of problems re pressure couplings but yeah, you had friction losses and as you say, angular momentum to compensate for as a result.

While in principle you've reduced the complications to, say, putting a hamster wheel in an Apollo command module, you still had data and power transfer issues. And a f---load of mechanical load etc.
