@nixCraft And prototype becomes product. More than once I've been given some sort of responsibility for a product which immediately, upon the most cursory examination reveals itself to have never been properly blueprinted or even designed. Take a proof of concept from a rough spec and just keep the momentum going. They're absolutely awful. Most frequent gag me feature? The gigantic if/else/elif ... ladder right in the middle of it all that everyone adds stuff to and no one dares change.

@ct_bergstrom He or it appears to have created the account just to say whatever the fuck that was.
Last night I turned on Netflix for the first time in what must be four months. Had the usual experience where it offered me the same 20 shows over and over again, continually recontextualized and using different still images. Turned it off again. That's all I've done with Netflix for as long as I can remember.
Just now googled "I'm cancelling netflix" to see how much company I've got.
Wow. Lots.

@morgfair "We" of course _don't_ pay for twitter. I finally deleted my account. The blue-checks are a toxic waste dump. The worst that humanity has to offer. And they're floated to the top. It's a sewer.
We did ours at a lighthouse high on the coastal bluffs, and invited the others at our B&B breakfast table to be our guests, and a gorgeous middle-aged couple on their anniversary to be our witnesses. It was perfect beyond belief. Wouldn't trade it for all the formal weddings in the world.
OTOH I gotta admit when a guy on the street in downtown Portland momentarily and cursorily breaks off from his phone conversation to ask me for money, the fact that he's in the middle of a conversation on the same model of iPhone I have turns me downright Republican for the next several minutes.

@QasimRashid To be fair you're talking about people who get apoplectic when they hear the poor have refrigerators too. Because, one supposes, you're sure to escape poverty if you can't keep food in the house and have to eat out.

@davidallengreen Given the slate of ministers they've installed in top roles over the years, they don't exactly appear to have a deep bench of competence to draw on.
@ct_bergstrom For a bit there was wondering if this was another example of Getty's amazing business model: that of licensing images it doesn't own and just scraped off the web.
The useful part of having the motherboard die on my file server was it belatedly occurring to me that with the addition of a pair of USB3 SATA adapters I could replace it with a #RaspberryPi 4 that I already had. Uses a fifth of the wattage, has a minuscule footprint, makes no sound, and it's powered from a #PoE switch so there's not even a wall wart.
@spaceflight The other problem is that most of the galaxy, as measured by density, is unsuitable for development of the kind of life we understand. Too many stars too close together means you get a supernova in the neighborhood with life-extinguishing effects too frequently for anything resembling DNA-based life to get very far before the reset button is pushed, again and again.
@failedLyndonLaRouchite @spaceflight We don't know it didn't. there could have been many intelligent species; there's no reason to expect they'd leave a recognizable and accessible trace over those kinds of timeframes. Even Precolumbian-grade stone structures would be scattered and buried rubble by now.
