@mtorchiano @bruces Given that it's inherently derivative, I'd have expected the result of a prompt about Turin to include three Mini Coopers and a Bedford VAL bus.
@JohnShirley2023 @cavyherd @bruces @scalzi That was the funniest part.
@sundogplanets Don't you get the moon memos?
@Itty53 @chemoelectric @cpoliticditto Elon's quite practiced at sneering at famous people who disagree with him.
@jackoneill Oh, one thing I forgot to mention: it conforms to a peculiar prejudice of mine: It doesn't use an additional database. I've written mail clients in the past; between maildir, imap and the filesystem itself there really isn't a need for a database, and I've always found it silly that people never seem to be able to code a PHP site of any description without building it around MySQL, or sometimes sqlite or postgres, no matter what the task; because that's what the tutorials always say to do.
Sure, databases are often indispensible. But when they *are* dispensible, dispense with them already.
@jackoneill Hm? SnappyMail is PHP. It only uses javascript on the client. I chose it as the best of bad options; it seems well-maintained and competently done, and sticking it behind platform authentication removes most of PHP's legendary attack surface.
@Popehat Steady on, old chap, this is the Internet! However did you find your way in here?
@JohnShirley2023 I keep media hidden by default, a choice I've never had cause to regret. So on the rare occasion I look at the Federated feed I don't see anything to annoy me. If a person can't be bothered to put any text in I'm sure I don't need to see the image they posted.
@Timi@mstdn.plus SpaceX can't be subject to Elon's whims, because they rely entirely on the confidence of major governments, aerospace and communications companies. Elon -- surprisingly enough -- is actually smart enough to know this. Any capricious betrayal of Ukraine and SpaceX is finished as a company.
@jbe It hasn't occurred to me in years to block javascript, given how much of the web doesn't work at all without it anymore.
@jbe Those wouldn't be the complainers, then.
@jbe Agreed, the complaints are useless noise, but in most cases, noting that it's a paid-subscriber-only link will save users a fruitless visit and head off some of those complaints.
@Free_Press As ever, no source, no link, no way to verify or get further details. And taking up endless amounts of of my timeline thanks to hashtag bombing. Muting.
@JohnShirley2023 Like GOP Sen. Tuberville would know. GOp Sen. Tuberville never has to step outside his air-conditioned SUV until it stops in an air-conditioned garage connected to his air-conditioned office or one of his air-conditioned homes.
@ct_bergstrom I still want to be one of the "angels" on Europa from the last bit of @bruces' "Schismatrix".
@raulclima @reedmideke @supernovae@universeodon.com
Yes. And all that you say speaks to the larger issue of "energy conservation" device choices being a poor substitute for eliminating the device entirely. For example, buying an electric car might be better than buying an ICE car, but an indescribably worse choice than simply reducing the number of cars you have by one, and using transit, bicycles and -- in a pinch -- carshares.
I considered buying an electric car. But given that it takes 30-50K kilometers of driving to offset the embodied energy cost before any net savings are realized, I've decided to see if I can avoid buying _any_ car ever again.

Perhaps then England deserves to fail.
@AlicornSkyler Quite. i mean what simpler and cheaper "solution" could Putin possibly have than simply withdrawing his forces from Ukraine?
