Meta aka Instagram is working on a Twitter competitor that is rumored to be ActivityPub compatible.
If you run a fediverse instance (Mastodon, Pixelfed, Calckey and others), would you ban a Meta instance?

@dansup I'm surprised there's people with "not enough information" or "it depends on their conduct".
Meta/FB has done that already with Jabber/XMPP:
- started Messenger with S2S open with other servers
- people were not creating accounts on external servers because they already had FB
- FB waited out the hype of having a Jabber account
- FB locked it down
It might happen instance by instance with bigger instances living longer and benefiting short term from attrition of smaller ones.
That was people fault for not using XMPP more to interact with people on Facebook¹. If GMail could do the same it would, but it can't because too many people use other email providers.
We just need to continue to use FOSS AP servers and if Meta & Co drop AP support at some point, well it will be bad for their users only, not for us.
1: I did my part at the time by chatting with Facebook users with a XMPP client on my Nokia 6630, incredibly at that time there was any other way to chat from mobile on Facebook.
