😬

I don't want to talk about this, but I must.

UFoI has been floating around, purportedly to govern a shared code of conduct and ethics for instances.

From a cursory glance at the ethics they claim to represent, it looks good.

However, the particular instance that's captaining this whole thing is well known on Fediblock.

Many folks -- for good reason -- believe this is an attempt to compromise the effectiveness and integrity of Fediblock.

To a certain extent, it already has. 🧵

@atomicpoet Blocklists would be less of an issue if #Fediverse instances were small. The problem is blocking a large instance with thousands of people, for the bad posts by only a few. Yes, those few posts get through because of poor moderation by the SysAdmin, but it's easier to moderate a small instance than one with thousands of people.

So, fellow #Fedizens: If you have the chance, set up your own instance. Then YOU get to choose what's blocked and what's not.

@bobjonkman @atomicpoet I am sure most responsible admins doing due diligence realize a few on a large instance is not a reason to defederate an entire instance - unless the admin of terms of that instance do not meet the criteria to federate. A three step approach might be prudent: 1) block bad actors individually 2) notify the admin of that instance of issues with a silencing and publish 2) followup if action not taken with a defederation and publish... is that not possible?

@atomicpoet @bobjonkman @shelenn possible and reasonable, but not at all what’s happening, unfortunately.
