NEW OP-ED:

Meta:
- just laid off 13% of its staff
- is losing user time to TikTok
- has shed 70% of its value this year

And yet the @FTC@twitter.com has *two* active antitrust cases against the company.

My latest op-ed on how @linakhanFTC@twitter.com is chasing FB's ghosts:

fortune.com/2022/12/15/ftc-cou

Regulators have a responsibility to pay attention to what’s happening in the market and who they’re targeting.

But with these lawsuits, the FTC is fighting an old, imagined version of Facebook -- not today’s Meta that’s in a competitive dogfight for its future survival.

@adamkovac

I’m sorry, are you seriously suggesting that the lawsuits should stop because a $322 Billion company is facing competition it can’t easily eliminate by acquisition? So all past actions are irrelevant if they don’t ultimately succeed beyond all reason?

I’m trying to follow the logic. It seems like you are suggesting “no point in prosecuting those bank robbers now, they only have 30% of the ill-gotten gains left!”

@adamkovac

On further reflection, it seems more likely that you do not believe that any of the $322 billion they have left are “ill gotten gains,“ in which case you disagree philosophically with the current head of the FTC. And less importantly, me.
