I am pleading with…whoever is in charge of whatever layer of the Fediverse controls the relevant functionality to fix Mastodon post embeds.

IMHO, this is the single biggest thing holding Mastodon back from mainstream adoption.

Most social sharing has gone private. Twitter is influential in public discourse partly because it’s easy to embed tweets in articles. Missed opportunity!

@buzz that opens up a whole bunch of different issues, especially as a relates to embeds being pulled from an instance that may be a small instance that didn’t think that they were going to be on some ultra popular website. What happens then?

@jasontucker @buzz Ideally, ultra popular websites and media sources would have their own instances, and could embed the post from their own instance's infrastructure.

For now, everything I try to send to friends and family has my giant anime mugshot as the preview. It's horrible.

@pwinn @jasontucker Yeah, that's a great point. That seems ideal from the perspective of a news organization.
