Over on the other site, people keep telling me that a decentralized social media platform "could never" work. And yet... it is working?
"Too many tradeoffs" they tell me. There are tradeoffs, but when I add them up, they seem to favor the decentralized platform over the centralized one. So strange.

I literally posted earlier today about the downsides to federated social media, one of which is directly impacting me, and still I posted it on mastodon rather than any of the centralized social media options out there.
I'll take it, downsides and all.
