In celebration of #BlackFriday, I would like to boost more #Black #artists. Here is a wonderful piece by #quilt #artist Bisa Butler:
I love this response to anything.

OK, time for a serious plea to everyone who "just wants to learn."
I don't care if we're talking about racism, ableism, queerphobia, or whatever else. Your intention to learn is fine, that's a good start, please don't give up on trying to learn.
But lesson number one? HOW you learn really, really fucking matters.
Do not come into conversations among racialized communities and poke for answers. Do not enter disabled or queer spaces and start taking notes. Do not presume upon the time or energy of people just because you really want to learn from them.
If someone is not overtly and clearly offering to educate, do not ask them to teach. This also applies to people who DO willingly educate but may also, y'know, deserve an occasional break from being teachers.
Oppressed folx got enough shit to carry already, and y'all wandering in and acting like straight-up stalking us is a "healthy way to learn" are not helping anything.
Keep your desire to learn intact. Like I said, it's a good thing. Just aim it in the appropriate directions, for fuck's sake.
I'm pretty sure qoto-no-tickers is exactly what you've been using sans the bright instance ticker bars.
I thought the tickets were broken too, that’s why it took me a couple of minutes to remember what was being talked about
On further reflection, it seems more likely that you do not believe that any of the $322 billion they have left are “ill gotten gains,“ in which case you disagree philosophically with the current head of the FTC. And less importantly, me.
In the south of Burkina Faso lies a small village called Tiébélé. It's home to the Kassena people; one of the oldest ethnic groups that settled in the region in the 15th century.
Tiébélé is known for their amazing traditional Gurunsi architecture and elaborately decorated walls of their homes.
Dating back to the 16th century, wall decorating has always been a community project done by the women.

@agterrane theme*, not them. Twice. Obviously. :)
@agterrane OH! I remember that from my first day or two. I switched themes to disable that. :)
The qoto-no-ticker them is, I believe, identical to the default them but without what you’re talking about.
I went with a completely different theme, so mine looks like this:
@agterrane I’m not even sure what you mean. My home feed seems easily readable, I think. What am I overlooking?
I’m sorry, are you seriously suggesting that the lawsuits should stop because a $322 Billion company is facing competition it can’t easily eliminate by acquisition? So all past actions are irrelevant if they don’t ultimately succeed beyond all reason?
I’m trying to follow the logic. It seems like you are suggesting “no point in prosecuting those bank robbers now, they only have 30% of the ill-gotten gains left!”
I’ve posted a number of screenshots from #GenshinImpact because it’s a beautiful game. But I’m going all-text in this post, because it’s not just a visually stunning game, but also features some excellent and moving stories.
Early this morning I completed a quest that started out as observation of a child who seemed to be playing with an invisible friend, and ended up focusing on a man wracked with overwhelming guilt and feelings of worthlessness, trapped by a lie he couldn’t let go.
I'm trying to avoid spoiling anything, but he did find some relief, and the story ended with a beautifully-animated reminiscence by a character who isn't what they seem to be.
My middle-school daughter has her favorite stories, one of which involves a character who survives childhood trauma but struggles to see herself as a person worth valuing many years later. That one closes with a Chinese opera, again beautifully animated.
Okay, maybe just *one* screenshot, from the closing poem of reminiscence.
It’s an old tune, but new verses are added regularly: cable monopolists behave badly, and cost us all money.

In this verse, @pluralistic (aka Cory @doctorow) spells out “how cable monopolists tricked conservatives into shooting themselves in the face.”

@ceoln Okay, now *this* seems like what you're talking about: https://www.riffusion.com/about
I am so sorry you were involved in that horrifying story. I think that would screw me up pretty badly, too.
I do live in the US, and in a city that requires a minimum of a four-year college degree for cops, which you might think would help. And yet somehow when I search for my city name, I see a story about how cops arrested a Black teenager, a high school senior, who was walking home from work during a winter storm. Kid spent the night in jail because he didn't want to talk to the cops.
The city website suggests the last "officer-involved shooting" was in 2021, with three in 2020, one in 2019, two in 2017, and one in 2015. It says something that I think that's actually not too bad for a city of more than 280k people.
It's terrible, of course.
They've got a "Use of Force" report for 2021 that (surprise!) finds no "out of policy" events all year, with 41 "within policy" and 7 "under investigation."
I should be happy about the accountability, but I trust cops so little that I figure at least some of those 48 would horrify me if I dug into the details.
