I hope NATO and the Ukrainian government's plan isn't to eschew negotiation, erect another Iron Curtain, bide their time until the weapons pour in, and then turn their country into another Afghanistan just to spite Russia, because that's going to be truly hideous.

Indeed, but it doesn't appear to me that anything has been done in the meanwhile to solve the crisis, thus I doubt something concrete is being planned right now.
I hope negotiation opens again so that we can find a solution and get back to good relations with our Russian neighbors.
