@Runyan50 too new to say but will update. Reviews I trust do find issues with the novel method for rainfall measurement. Starts clipping in really heavy rains. But everything else including wind apparently is solid with lightning detection especially good. No moving parts is one big advantage.
@rdaily Let us know how the Tempest works out. I've got a 15yr old Davis Vantage Pro 2 that is finally showing its age and I keep looking at the Tempest.. But probably going to spend the money and stick with the Davis again.
@rdaily So I scrolled back to see what weather thing you installed.
Looks cool, but it also looks like something that depends on a proprietary cloud and so will quit working when they change their business model.
@kentborg unfortunately true but an isolated weather station without integration into a network of stations severely limits how helpfully they are. The API is public and I can pull the data directly from the unit if needed. The station is already reporting directly to Weather Underground and others such as WeatherBug are available.
@rdaily Public API for talking directly to the unit? That sounds business-plan-proof. I might have to get one. Though don't want to spend the money right now…

@kentborg I figured out how to pull the data just to see if I could. Worked but really would need a bit of programming to make it routinely easy to read the info returned at a glance.
@rdaily Maybe some open source SW will appear.
