Just learned what the user interfaces in the SpaceX capsules run.

The capsules that provide life support for people traveling into space and have to be absolute reliable.

The user interface that controls an explosion.

It runs some home-compiled version of Chromium and the UI is written in JavaScript.

@thomasfuchs would you prefer some obscure assembly language, only 10 people alive are able to understand?

You talk about a graphical user interface. Thr gui.

What d'you expect? Hard-wired knobs like they weren't in 1969?

Any idea what else to use?
Understand that it's not about computers understanding the code. It's about humans understanding it.

Pros:
- self-compiles chrome: great. They know exactly what they're looking at. Probably fixing a thing or two.
- JavaScript: a well-known language. Many people can read and understand it. The more people understand it the more people will be able to spot errors

Rest assured they have loads of safety measures in place. Including several thousand tests for the thing.

This is not your quickly hacked e-com-site.
