BTW, if you think controversies over Daylight vs. Standard Time are nasty, you might want to look at the USSR's attempt to literally ban weekends, and move workers to a "continuous" week where different individuals had different days off, enabling the workplaces to operate seven days a week. They started this experiment in 1929, and it lasted for eleven years, ending in 1940 as a dismal failure. I'll bet almost nobody reading this was even aware that this occurred.
