Something with my PC is fucked up. When running games at a high FPS, it crashes and reboots in both Windows and Linux so I tested with a benchmark tool and it happened again. However unlikely they may be, possible causes are
Inadequate cooling
Greater power draw than is being provided
Defective parts
I don't know how to properly test those though 
Other than the liquid cooling which I'm still on the fence about, this is my build at the moment

I doubt cooling is a problem because there are three be quiet! fans in the case, two fans on the GPU, and a massive one on the CPU. Power draw is also unlikely because it's estimated to be ~414W while the PSU is rated for 600W.
Liquid cooling is a no.
If you have heat or power problems these rarely have their seat with the cpu. If you want a computer, get a reasonable air-coooled case. If you want a boat anchor, go liquid cooled. Speaking from experience.

@hhardy01 @amolith In all likelihood you know better than me, but in my current build (which is liquid cooled) the PC would shut down as soon as it came under load. I too was vexed, but it turned out the CPU cooling plate wasn't properly seated. Since a proper seal has been achieved, the system has run flawlessly.
But given @amolith isn't running liquid cooling, this clearly can't be the issue?
