“You can’t do it all at once,
but you can do it all the time.”

on repairing the world

@jessitron “Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world’s grief. Do justly, now. Love mercy, now. Walk humbly, now. You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it.” (Shapiro 1995, glossing Talmud)

@sakhavi @jessitron To continue exploring other views along similar lines, Shunryu Suzuki had a nice quote which became a small book of aphorisms:
"We say, to shine one corner of the world—just one corner. If you shine one corner, then people around you will feel better. You will always feel as if you are carrying an umbrella to protect people from heat or rain."
David Chadwick's bio and records are a fun read here. cuke.com/ZIRH/shine/intro.htm
