Contrast that to the overt cruelty we see today. Greg Abbott puts migrants on buses to freezing temps on xmas eve and still wins elections by 11 pts.
Acts that should generate disgust instead trigger feelings of power, even as those celebrating Abbott literally lose grid power.
It's terrifying. How are we going to fix this?
@kims We are not…not until we address the underlying cause that allows them to get away with de-humanizing people based on the color of their skin. That foundation: white supremacy. Until Americans agree that the “all men are created equal…that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” applies to everyone, we won’t be able to progress past these abuses.
@Deglassco @kims Agreed. However, racists get around the "all men" part by claiming that people of color are not really human. Only white people are. Everyone else are "animals".
I'm white so I get to listen to how white racists really feel about it, how they talk about it in private. It's ugly.
As an engineer with both feet in science, their whole argument is ridiculous. Homo sapiens was originally black. White skin is an adaptation.
Will they consider this? No. Beliefs indoctrinated from childhood are very hard to overcome.
How to fix this I don't know. Racist parents are right now indoctrinating their children to react viscerally to people of color without even knowing why. They see a person of color across the street and their blood pressure spikes by instinct, like they saw a tiger, because they were taught as children. We have to somehow break this cycle.
