@TruthSandwich @shuttersparks Why is it that whenever I purposely avoid using some old line that everyone knows, someone will always pop in and use it anyway?

Cliches are the first things that come to mind. What I've trained myself to do is to hesitate and see if I can come up with some twisted second or third-order form of the cliche or a malapropism and use that instead. It gets a bigger giggle from the smarter readers.
