It’s happening! Right now in Phoenix, we’re getting a new AC unit. The crane is coming in a few minutes. Foreground monster unit is the actual right size for this home. All new duct work too. It’s very common here these units are on the roof. Still seems weird to me when in the Midwest they are in the house or outside on ground. #AC #Phoenix

@cobalt That does seem odd. Seems to me it would be more expensive in several ways to put it on the roof. You put the unit on the roof if you have no other choice.

@shuttersparks @cobalt it helps keep the heat out/away from the house.
In my neighborhood every house has an evaporative cooler on the roof because they have the ductwork in the attic, separate from the central heating. I wonder if Arizona originally did the same and then replaced them piecemeal with AC and the placement became standardized.

@cobalt @shuttersparks it's probably also quieter on the roof than under/near a window.
Sure is inconvenient to work on.

@smellsofbikes @shuttersparks never saw a company put up a canopy tent over work location before. No rain expected here.

@smellsofbikes @cobalt Yup. That must be the reason. I remember in the '60s when evaporative coolers were everywhere.
