Do people still call #CQ for a general rag chew anymore? Are most #QSO s part of operating events?

#MorseCode #AmateurRadio

@sergio_101 Yes. On CW we call CQ all the time. Whether local or DX, everyone calls CQ to establish contact. If I get on the air later tonight, the first thing I'll do is listen for DX calling CQ towards the bottom of the band and then work my way up the band. When done with that, I'll start calling CQ myself around 7050 or 14050.

Some people want a quick exchange, some a little longer exchange, some a long chat. You'll find that out automatically during the QSO.

@shuttersparks

I hardly have time for a full ragchew on CW.. i usually check to see if any contests or events are going on. when I was first licensed, I used to hang out in the novice part of the 40m band. i need to see if that's still a thing.

@sergio_101 Well, there is no novice part, but there's lots of CW activity from 7000 to 7068. Most DX is found from 7000 to 7030. The SKCC club I belong to is very active and you'll find us from 7050 to 7060, plus or minus. A lot of beginners come up through SKCC and build their skill. You might also check from 7110 to 7120.

Oh! I have a #skcc number! I just need to figure out how to do the exchange. I’ll be on it this week.

@sergio_101 Well then, please jump in. There are 27,000 of us, eager to make QSOs. SKCC members will slow down as slow as you need or some can go fast. Some just want to exchange numbers with a basic QSO. Others like to ragchew. Some of us do Marathon QSOs that last over an hour.

See you on the air! VY 73 DE KW2P, SKCC 24677.
