I have a shiatton of respect for WV citizens. The shit they went thru to not be indentured servants in the mines, and the "redneck"* persona the remaining coal barons keep pushing is demeaning at best
*Redneck being the bandanas they wore, perverted to undermine their education and resilience while pushing measures to reduce actual schooling to "keep them in their place"
@olav What shocks me is how few of today's West Virginians know their own history or know anything about the uprisings.
Donald Trump and his ilk (rich guys from New York and New England) are exactly the people who owned the coal mines and did the oppressing. But that's long forgotten by the people here.
