I'm starting to think Donald J. Trump wasn't a very good president.

I'm starting to think Donald J. Trump is just in it for the money.

I'm starting to think Donald J. Trump hires the worst people.

I'm starting to think Donald J. Trump is PRO-pollutants.

@yurnidiot Oh jeez. Now I'll have to listen to all the Trumpers I work with ranting about this nonsense. They believe everything he says, no matter how ridiculous, and are willing to defend it with violence if need be.

@shuttersparks how do you work in an environment like that? genuinely curious

@yurnidiot Self-control and patience. Just smile and say little. The whole state of West Virginia is like this. People have their roofs painted "TRUMP", have their trucks painted, fly Confederate flags, etc. It's like a religion so you just have to tolerate it just like tolerating religion. You can't speak against it or risk consequences. Nor is there any point to trying. Objective facts and logic have no part in this so there's no possibility of changing someone's mind.

However, it is interesting to observe how easy it is to convert a population into a cult that will readily die for you. The whole Jim Jones thing finally makes sense.

@shuttersparks omg that is BANANAS. kudos to you for having the patience/will power to live through all that. takes real guts to endure that much stupidity on a daily basis. i fear this country is headed for darker times, but i hope your situation improves and/or you make it out of there with your sanity intact.

@yurnidiot I'll be fine. The country is what I worry about. There are millions of people like this and they will all be around long after Trump is gone, primed, ready, looking for a new cult figure to latch onto.

@shuttersparks @yurnidiot actually, you don’t have to tolerate religious nonsense. They can pretend to believe it, but you don’t have to pretend to respect their nonsense. After seeing where the christo-fascist radicals are headed in the US, I have stopped with pretending to respect or tolerate their bs. If someone wears their “faith” in public now, I think it’s fair to call them to account for it.

@LeRoyWesterling @yurnidiot Yeah, that's best not done here. Word travels in small towns. If they think you're not a Christian you get shunned. People cross the street to avoid you. Oppose Trump and, you know, house fires happen. Not that unusual with 100-plus year old homes. Government here is more corrupt than when I lived in Guatemala. The powerful old families call the shots with every agency, the police, and courts. It's best to be closely associated with a reasonably powerful family and just follow along with the old ways.

This isn't Los Angeles, where I grew up. Nobody sues anybody here, for example. Doesn't work when every level is rigged. But I learned the art of functioning in this kind of setup so I have no problems. It's all about who you know.
