In the wake of a Seattle cop(the VP of the cop union) getting caught laughing about a woman the department had killed, SPD ends contract with the company responsible for reviewing body cam footage.
Why is this even a contract managed by the cops? Really seems like anything involving bodycam management should not be run by the corrupt cops.
@nullagent Disgusting but typical. Police departments have a lot of political "pull" and they use that power to protect themselves and quash oversight. The whole design is screwed up. Fixing it is straightforward but impossible in this country because politicians are in bed with the cops. The idea of police that serve the people like they do in other countries is unthinkable in the U.S.A. because the official function of police in the U.S.A. is wrongheaded. The function of police in the U.S.A. is to protect the government from the people -- totally backwards from the normal definition of civil police.
So, we're stuck with it.
@bhawthorne @nullagent I believe that's what I said, since wealth and power are fungible.
