Dr Marina Romanello (Lancet Countdown), on the links between #climatechange, #health & social stability:

'There is an enormous human cost to inaction & we can’t afford this level of disengagement – we are paying in lives. Every moment we delay makes the path to a livable future more difficult & adaptation increasingly costly and challenging'!

The #climatecrisis is here but, of course, #COP28 is being hosted by a state with world-beating #FossilFuels development plans!

@Npars01 @ChrisMayLA6 Yes, it's easy to overlook the rarely-discussed mechanisms that finance the oil companies. Those companies have worked for 150 years to lock themselves in. Big oil used to be a measure of progress so subsidies were justified for this important business. Those subsidies are baked into the fabric of government. not just in the U.S. but around the world.

On top of that, the oil companies spent the last century getting treaties from every country where they operate. If those countries (including the United States) interfere in any way with their business, the country owes vast sums of money in damages. For smaller countries, these sums are often larger than the entire net worth of the country.

So we're stuck.

Koch might find his lawsuit to be counter-productive. Lawsuits mean depositions under oath. Lawsuits mean discovery

It would be as imprudent as Murdoch's Fox News fight with Dominion that cost them $787 million. And counting...

There are agencies looking forward to the same domino effect that got Big Tobacco
