@cstross The notion that a surveillance tech company was brazen enough to name itself after something that was famously abused by fantasy's greatest villain has long boggled me; it is surpassed in my mind only by the audacity of naming a meal replacement product "Soylent".

@ErosBlog @cstross I have big problems with the fact that they exist at all, but I always thought it was cool that Palantir tells you exactly who they are and what they strive to do, right in the name, if you're literate enough to pick up on the reference. Most are not and it goes right over their heads.
