China has built massive amounts of wind and solar capacity over the past decade. Its power grid couldn't always keep up, leading to significant curtailment. But now, despite a further acceleration in capacity additions*, the grid has caught up too, reducing curtailment to just a few percent. Impressive!

What happens to global geopolitics and the balance of trade with a China freed of its fossil fuel overlords?

No longer dependent on Russian oil?
No longer dependent on Australian & Canadian coal?
No longer dependent on #KochNetwork and its Wall Street financiers?
No longer dependent on OPEC?

Democracies could survive if they copied China and ditched their planet-frying toxic fossil fuel overlords as well.

@Npars01 @Sustainable2050 @coalfreedave I'd love to sit down with Xi and have a long talk about such things. I mean, if I were China's leader I believe I would be focusing on exactly that -- freeing myself from dependence on foreign anything. Trade yes, dependence no.
