@georgetakei “The range of DragonFire is classified.” Where are the science nerds out there? Remembering back to my grade school days when my science project was LASERS, their range is that of light… meaning nearly infinite. So you could evaporate the new Chinese moon robot. They made something like this in the movie “Real Genius.” Put that sucker on a satellite with some A.I. and watch “Captain America:Winter Soldier” in real life, but without super heroes to save us.

@LLRogue @georgetakei In practice its more complicated. Real lasers aren't perfectly collimated, so the beam will spread. The theoretical limit is the diffraction from the emitter. Also a laser beam in air heats the air, which causes the beam to spread. Finally, the beam power needs to be on one spot long enough to burn through, which requires either very accurate tracking or a very intense pulse. But above a certain intensity you ionise the air instead heating it, which makes it opaque.

@tokensane @LLRogue @georgetakei It's always good to read the comments before posting. Saved me from saying what you already said. Lol.
