@lauren Aww yeah. It's been so long I'd forgotten that it pissed me off when that hijacking took place. Kind of like when "hacker" turned into something else long ago.

Remember looong ago when someone likely said to you, "Oooh, nice hack, Lauren!"

@SexyCyborg Hahahaha. This has happened to me many times, both camping and RVing. Why do people do this? It must be ancient instinct.

Dude, if I wanted neighbors I would have stayed home.

Vulgar, stupid, and fascist

@truthsandwich Apparently, he also used the painting without permission and the artist is not happy.

We don’t know who leaked the Supreme Court opinions to conservative groups, but one justice certainly doth protest his own innocence Alito too loudly.

Worth amplifying this point yet again. Please do NOT delete your #Twitter account. Even if you stop using it completely, please don't increase the risk of your user name being reused by someone else in the future. And I strongly recommend downloading all your Twitter data now, while Elon still permits it and the relevant systems are functioning. When I did this a number of days ago, it took ~48 hours from the time I made the request to being able to download the data. That's liable to get longer as more people request the data.

Go to your Twitter profile, then:

More->Settings and Support->Settings and privacy->Download an archive of your data

For now, I recommend using email verification and not text messages (SMS) to confirm the download request, since there have been reports of Twitter SMS failures lately, but it's up to you of course.

Why I'm now here. Let's see…

Can Mastodon be a reasonable Twitter substitute for journalists? nie.mn/3TW767N

@aristeon More engagement here on Mastodon, which seems odd with far fewer users and followers. My blog just had its busiest day ever. The only explanation I see is that my stuff doesn't resonate with Twitter's algorithm but it does resonate with people.

Do you feel like your posts on Mastodon reach more people than your tweets did on Twitter? Please reblog for larger sample size

@eatymology Yeah, it's all pretty funny looking back on it today. The belief it was an aphrodisiac was prevalent in the U.S.A. and Europe a hundred or so years ago. Given the misogyny of the time, men didn't want women to have any control over sex, whatsoever. So it all makes sense, given that time in history.

I've always wanted to have an avocado tree, But it's probably good that I haven't or I'd weigh 400 pounds.

politics (kinda), social media shenanigans (mostly), and a penguin in his underwear

Apologies for the link to another platform, but as I'm a huge fan of Berke Breathed and Bloom County, seeing a new strip in 2022 is like spotting a leprechaun riding a unicorn. Enjoy!

@eatymology Hahaha. I've eaten them properly since the 1950s, but I'm from California.

Did you know that a hundred years ago or so, avocados were considered an aphrodisiac and it was unacceptable for women to eat them. Bahahaha.

If I could tell every single PhD student in any sort of scientific field one thing, it might very well be this: Avoid synonyms. Maximize clarity by picking one term from among those available and use it consistently throughout your paper.

Vulgar, stupid, and fascist

@truthsandwich Probably is because his reasons for destroying Twitter, whatever they are, are also flawed, if that's what he's trying to do. There are so many other ways he could have gone with this that would have benefited him.

Vulgar, stupid, and fascist

@truthsandwich Well, that would make sense. From here it looks like a descent into madness.
