Going into the 2022 midterm elections, Ds controlled 36 state legislative chambers; Rs controlled 62. Now, Ds control 40; Rs 56. (3 remain uncalled.)

It's the first time a prez's party has picked up state leg seats in the 1st-term midterms since *1934*. ballotpedia.org/Election_resul

Moaning

@aegir Agreed. I haven't in the past but here on Mastodon, it's clear the population is far more cosmopolitan than on other platforms. So I've taken to adding or whatever to posts pertaining to a certain country.

Moaning

If you’re going to post about a thing happening in, say, the police, or “the government”, could you make it clear what country you’re on about? Also, content warnings are nice.

@sil Lessons were learned in the 1960s. Nowadays media companies only promote music with milquetoast lyrics about love, sex, and getting drunk. It keeps the masses from getting riled up.

@mikegalsworthy Yes. As a result of migrating off Twitter I examined every follow and follower, one by one. I found that about half were inactive accounts. I guess you'll have that after 14 years on a platform. Lol.

@noracodes I really resent the whole "Mastodon is too technical" thing because

1) it feels like a concerted effort by a subset of influencers and opinion leaders who have realised that Mastodon is a lot harder to game and they may not be able to preserve clout they didn't earn, and

2) I'm a music major who doesn't use cohost because I couldn't CSS my way out of a wet paper bag, and I picked up Mastodon inside a couple of minutes, tops. People are trying to speak "Mastodon is too hard" into existence because they don't want their world to change, but an unchanging world is a luxury some of us have never had.

It’s #FollowFriday so I hope folks utilize the hashtag to find my account here!
Give me a boost! Maybe if I can show some of the big accounts on Twitter that it’s possible to grow sizably and quickly here, too, they’ll migrate over!

Remembering a saluting today, John Michael Spann, the first American KIA in Afghanistan 21 years ago today. God bless him and his family.

"The most important thing about this amazing Paris transformation is how fast it happened — how fast people on bikes “appeared” — once streets were transformed.

You can’t write this off as “Paris was always this way,” because it wasn’t.

It took leadership."

@mmasnick Red flag. Trying to move communications off the platform is a red flag. It's the same on eBay where algorithms to detect such attempts are in place. Doing it will get you kicked off the platform.

@lauren @pingle Funny coincidence. Researching this question and learning about the tools available for dealing with bad actors is on my to-do list. I was already engaged in it and in conversation with the admin of my instance when your post showed up. (Creepy, huh?)

I've not run into a problem yet but I'm sure I will eventually. I know there are bad instances on Masto. When I first started on Mastodon four years ago I went searching for trouble and found it. So I know it exists. Now I'm going to flesh out my knowledge of all levels of this issue. I'll write it up if it seems worthwhile.

@godpod Yes, sickening. I've heard that reaction several times already here in West Virginia, "He shouldn't have been in a gay bar," completely dismissing the fact that human beings were murdered in cold blood.

It's a very sick society we've got here and it can't be fixed in less than generations of time.
