Here's another one of my silly short sagas from when I was working on the first Trek film "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" - ST:TMP - 1979).
So at one point, I was tasked with conceiving the Klingon written language for the film. Did I know anything about creating either terrestrial or extraterrestrial written languages? Of course not. But I was there, and somebody needed to do it. Luckily (for both me and the Klingons) this work was ultimately transferred to somebody else. Phew.
I also got fairly well along with my own concept for the film -- a "calculation pad" for Spock. The idea was that he'd have a handheld sort of tablet, and he could write equations and formulas on it and they'd instantly be converted to proper fonts and intermediate/final results and so on. Yeah, sounds like a modern iPod or Android tablet, long before such things actually existed. And software to do exactly what I visualized Spock doing on the tablet of course now exists as well.
But if you know the movie, Spock never is seen using a device like this. Why?
This one is simple. We were missing the forest for the trees. After I worked on the tablet idea for some time, we suddenly realized something crucial: "Hey ... he's SPOCK! He don't need no stinkin' tablet!"
And that ended that. -L
@EvilWriter @Sue_AS Yeah, I left the platform and removed the app from my phone. I see no hope for improvement. Twitter will be stopped by Google, Apple, and the EU. It's just a matter of time. When that happens I expect he'll destroy it rather than sell it and admit failure.
@georgetakei The stupid runs strong with the Greene one.
@laughingriver Yeah. Something about hubris, something, something...
@EvilWriter Exactly. I was pointing out that, regardless of what he's trying to accomplish, his arguments are fundamentally flawed. His followers are apparently just as ignorant of their country and government as he is.
@Sheril Yes, it's like the good old days before algorithms that seek out posts with viral possibilities and then stir up a tempest in a teapot to "foster engagement".
This used to be called shit-stirring or inciting a riot. Lol. Nowadays, people make money doing it.
@jellycrystals Yeah, I was taking the exchange rate into consideration. Containerized international shipping is super cheap nowadays so I was wondering why the big price markup. Maybe it's just because they can get away with it. Hahaha. Captive market.
Musk is confused and ignorant. He is in fact omitting civilization from the discussion. Free speech is not unlimited nor absolute and never has been. The U.S. Bill of Rights is not absolute either. The Bill of Rights can be overridden by an even more fundamental concept of civilization: You do not have the right to endanger or harm your fellow citizens.
If freedom of expression was absolute then I could go murder someone and claim, "He needed killing. I was just expressing myself." In a civilized society I cannot do that, QED.
@jellycrystals Wow. That's spendy for ink. I wonder if there's an import tax on stuff like that. It might be considered a luxury item. Hah. No, no, it's just INK, like for writing, you know?
@jellycrystals Hahaha. 3 fluid ounces U.S. is 88 ml.

@jellycrystals Ouch. Although you can spend over $20 US for a bottle of Noodlers if you don't care. The going price here these days is $14 US. On the other hand, Noodlers bottles are big, 3 ounces, and filled all the way to the top. It takes a while to go through 3 ounces. And my standard ink is a Noodlers but diluted 5 cc ink to 4 cc distilled water, giving the color and shading I like. So I get 5-plus ounces of ink for $14.
@brouhaha These were custom "LSI" (hah) chips for in-house use, not off-the-shelf products.
I remember the 9900. Used a TI minicomputer based on it to develop code for the 4-bit TMS1000. (The one where the program counter was a pseudo-random sequence generator.) Talk about minimalist design. Lol.
National Semi also made a mini. I used that to develop code for the COPS400 which was a pretty cool microcontroller for the time.
The fun old days.
@jellycrystals Yeah, sepia is a great choice. I should have thought of that. Duh. Yellow and brown are actually the same color, just different brightnesses. So brown from a yellow pen is perfectly natural. ;-)
I know a lot of people who like Diamine inks. I'm a Noodlers person. Noodlers has some nice browns if you're looking for a waterproof or bulletproof ink for marking school papers.
@jellycrystals Maybe you could skooch a little closer to yellow with a yellowish green. Lol.
The nice thing about FPs is it's easy to change colors.
#OnThisDay, 28 Nov 1967, PhD student Jocelyn Bell Burnell discovers the existence of pulsars.

@jellycrystals Hmm, quite a problem. Red and green are adjacent to yellow but not blue / purple. Seems that red, orange, yellow green or green wouldn't be too jarring from a yellow pen.
