@jimstewartson Bah, just one of those ”N" countries. They're all the same. ;-)
Via Ian Millhiser:
"The primary difference between Trump and DeSantis is that Trump is a lazy narcissist who wasn't interested in doing the job of president, while DeSantis is a hard-working authoritarian with well-thought out plans to remake the United States in the image of Viktor Orban's Hungary." ✔️
things user/profile systems fuck up, bad assumptions
- the user will never delete their account
- the user should be expected to individually delete their posts
- the user will never change their legal name
- the user will never change their email address
- the user will never change their phone number
- if they do change those things, surely they will think to use our change info ui before getting rid of their old name/phone number/email address
- the same as above, but with SSO linkages
@electrojcr @PadreSJ Indeed. From time to time I look at my attack logs. I find the usual assortment of random countries but somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of it comes from North America, much of it from Amazon cloud services.
So Musks' grand plan to stop bots was to
... deny access to Twitter from large swaths of the world.
...
That's a bold plan Cotton, let's see if it pans out.
@stephenhui Yeah, in other words, close the damned lid before you flush. ;-)
@crazygingerlady Hahaha. You'll make it. You just have to keep a good sense of humor, which it seems like you have. Without a sense of humor you're lost. (In my opinion and experience.)
@crazygingerlady Just wait until you're 70. ;-)
#ElonMusk’s favorite political party (GOP) demands that all illegal immigrants go back where they came from. So, I hope he’s looking forward to running his empire out of South Africa

@drvolts Yes indeed, two can play at this game.
There are more people like this fellow than you might imagine. They just don't come out and make noise about it like the other side does, and they're not into it for cosplay.

Here's a patch worn by a military veteran with Veterans for Equality, who decided he wanted to show up for LGBTQ rights today in opposition to the extremist militia protesting the drag show here in San Antonio, Texas.

Small scoop that I'm breaking here first. InfraGard, a program run by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to
build cyber and physical threat information sharing partnerships with the
private sector, this week saw its database of contact information on more than
80,000 members go up for sale on an English-language cybercrime forum.
Meanwhile, the hackers responsible are communicating directly with members
through the InfraGard portal online -- using a new account under the assumed
identity of a financial industry CEO that was vetted by the FBI itself.

I've gotten a lot of responses to that Substack piece about leaving Twitter. Many are positive but some are negative. A few are saying "oh so you think free speech is nasty?"
What kind of stupid question is that? Of course I do. The Nazis marching at Skokie were nasty. All sorts of speech is nasty. Supporting free speech doesn't mean reserving judgment about it, you imbecile. It means not using the state to suppress it.
@QasimRashid You'll have that problem if you publicly lionize unprincipled capitalists.
Still wondering (or having to deal with people who wonder) if EVs really ARE better for the environment than IC vehicles? This article provides what seems - to my non-scientific mind - to be a pretty good analysis:

@erinwhalen To go along with that, here's a somewhat more technical article I wrote about this a while back. The article is aimed at West Virginians but the information in it applies generally.
