@cra1g This one has been obvious to me since I was little. With strong, all you have is the strength you have. With smart I can make strong, as much strong as I want, 10 megatons of strong if need be.

@SexyCyborg Yes. Airlines that eagerly dropped mask requirements and other Covid precautions are unable to serve their customers properly and have to cancel flights because of staff shortages -- out sick with Covid.

Who could have imagined this would happen? :-|

@jdhaight @lauren Starting at programming in 1968, and also working with computers from the generation before mine, I thought of myself as a computer OG through the 1980s and into the 90s. But in 1997 I became friends with a married couple, both programmers, that reset my attitude.

The two of them had worked together for Raytheon since the 1950s. The two of them were largely responsible for the code that operated the early OTH radars, the "DEW Line" or Distant Early Warning System. I frequently spent hours with them listening to amazing stories of how those early systems worked, the weird hardware that had to be developed, software methods they had to invent, on and on. After that I didn't feel like an OG anymore.

I mean, when I started we had Fortran compilers and everything. Lmao.

@lauren @EugestShirley @dbc3 No knowledge of DEC CEs here but plenty of IBM. All the stories of IBM CEs are positive. Those guys knew their business and didn't fool around. I was impressed.

OTOH, IBM customers paid BIG money for leases and service so the service damn well better be stellar, and it was.

@lauren You should write a book. You're a good writer, and have lots of unique stories that no one else knows and never will know unless you write it.

One of my background tasks is adding more and more to my autobio as I think of things. Asimov's title for his autobio is always an inspiration for this work, "In Memory Yet Green."

Looks like George Santos created a fake pet charity and then kept the money people donated to help save animals.

Yeah, this is the Republican criminal mind that the GOP base loves and votes for.

@MichaelJStern Commonly known as fraud. And Santos emphasized that he has never committed any crime in any country of the world. (A statement that seems rather odd to me.)

Airlines are understaffed because of COVID.

Airline infrastructure is buckling due to climate change.

Travel chaos is a symptom of ignoring global crises.

@juglugs Yes, this has long been the case. I suspect it's due to Twitter's algorithms. Unless you are already famous, or an "influencer", or are trending, nobody sees your stuff.

A #DarthVader #pancake cooked for one of my kids this morning from a #castiron skillet I got for Christmas. It came out a little on the dark side, but was absolutely delicious. #StarWars #cooking #breakfast

A terminally-ill Kansas man’s hospital room was raided by cops because he used a weed vape and THC paste to ease the symptoms of the cancer that will kill him within weeks.

@lauren Yes, indeed. The same machine, an X-MP, was then used for 2010's CGI.

What we were most excited about was being able to solve the problem of "too much motion at once" using models. It was possible for the ship to move while the weapons doors were opening, while each of the covers were opening -- dozens of things in motion at once.
