Why am I, a white dude doctor hunter guy, so fucking angry about mass shootings? Well, because:
1. My kid might get killed in one
2. My worst fucking nightmare at work is dead kids
3. My staff might get shot at work
Y’all, I don’t live in fear. I hike, hunt, climb. My wife and I take our now 2 yo up 14,000 ft mountains and out cross country skiing in 10 degree weather. This mass shooting thing though— it weighs on my mind. It’s an ever-present threat now. Rare but not that rare. Unpredictable.

Well, it finally happened.
Medicare, America's national health insurance program for seniors 65+, is now over 50% privatized.
In 2017, private plans comprised 33% of Medicare enrollment.
In 2023, private plan enrollment via Medicare Advantage plans reached just over 50%.
We have sold out our seniors healthcare security to the profiteers.

My generation, the hippie / anti-war generation, likely still the most educated and aware of history, politics, government corruption, and U.S. intervention in foreign countries generation -- and what did we do when we grew up? We put on suits and ties, went to Wall Street, and used our knowledge to create billionaires and the biggest financial nightmares the world has ever seen. The cost of which we're only just starting to see.
So, while I hope, my long-term confidence in human nature is low.

@olavf Yeah, I really don't know what the heck she's been eating that passed for hummus. Mine is like normal hummus just extra delicious and extra garlicky. She's crazy about it. Hah.
@olavf Yes, I did a lot of experiments related to texture. After combining all the ingredients in the food processor and adjusting moisture so that it circulates slowly, I let the processor run on high power for seven minutes. This results in a texture that's very smooth but still contains microscopic grains.
If you want a mouth feel as smooth as butter and to eliminate the grains you have to peel the beans -- remove the transparent shells from the beans. That's too much trouble so I don't do it. Lol. Plus, the shell bits are fiber and add to the healthfulness of it.
Anyway, I have a "standard" recipe and some variations like smoked hummus and oregano hummus. I've also experimented with sweet versions and chocolate, but none of those were exciting. For me, hummus is about the garlic and olive oil.
