@lovelylovely Oh boy, they really went for it. Good!
@kellylepo I would love more real, honest people like teacher Bob Sauer getting their 15 minutes in the limelight.

@kellylepo Love it. Totally cool.
The Swedish prime minister has announced that Sweden will send troops to Latvia next year as part of a Canadian-led force to deter Russia from attack – despite not yet being a full member of Nato.
Warning that Russia is “trying to destabilise all of Europe” with threats, disinformation and cyber-attacks, Ulf Kristersson said “Sweden’s natural place is in Nato” and that he would “waste no time waiting for the final ratifications”.

A nice trans activism thing I like to do is, whenever I see an article about a school or a library or something being trans-inclusive or supportive of trans people/issues in my country, I send them a thank you card/note in the post.
They're probably getting hate mail about it from bigots, you know? Maybe a librarian/admin person getting something like that could make a big difference, now and also further down the line.
@cassolotl That's a great idea!
@hannah I like cars that can go in either direction.
NEW: Conservative MP helped draft text of a conspiratorial United Nations petition, author of petition says.
The man behind a petition sponsored by Leslyn Lewis told me he believes the UN wants to enslave humanity and modify our DNA to turn humans into a different species.
A great anti-fascist initiative from Germany is detailed in this article. They are trademarking the fascist slogans marketed by neo-Nazis to prevent their use, then using the revenues raised to finance their operation. Win, win.

@PaulDavisTheFirst @pseudonym True, although I've run many products through UL certification, including for security and fire equipment, which has much tighter requirements. You just jump through the hoops and pay for the testing. It's not that bad. But it's not free and it takes time, so yeah.
@w7voa
Musk's investors Alwaleed bin Talal, Mohammed bin Salman, & Larry Ellison are fully aware of Musk's substance abuse & STILL gave him loans to buy Twitter
Disabling Twitter as communication for science, news, & democracy was more important to these billionaires
$44 billion is money well wasted to them
In an assault on democracy, communication is a high priority target
In WW2 Nazis ordered occupied territory to give up their radios
Ending Twitter has the same role for today's fascists
@stevenbodzin @pseudonym Oh yeah, they'd pass. Electricity is expensive in Guatemala and people don't have a lot of money.
I think the Cetron fridge I had in Guatemala, which I bought new, drew 60 watts when the compressor was running. And I think the refrigerant was not Freon at all but propane. So a very environmentally sound design.
@Permacultureandpolitics Here in West Virginia it is amazing to see. In this state, if you don't support Trump you'll be thrown out of office and replaced.
@trouble @pseudonym Yup. Although I would stop thinking about the border. I'm sure all those appliances are manufacturered in Asia, so they would arrive in perfect condition by the containerful in Los Angeles, bearing whatever names and logos you asked for.
I'm also not clear on how many USians want simple, functional stuff. We in this thread obviously do. That's why we're talking about it. And we don't care what other people think. But even here in poor West Virginia, people are very focused on having the latest snazzy stuff that's "better" than what your neighbor bought six months ago. (This is a sickness unique to the United States, I think.)
So there may not be much of a market for pure practicality, even if it's a lot cheaper and more reliable.
