The first comment on this post includes this nugget: "I feel like most big tech companies have just become the equivalent of drug dealers, just trying to hijack our brain's evolutionary attention mechanisms to addict us."
Seems about right.
@MichaelBishop Yes. Been using Duck for almost six years now. Very happy and I get better search results, at least for my purposes. Google tries to figure out what you want to see. In my case it's frequently wrong and ends up burying exactly what I'm looking for.
Utah A.G. Sean Reyes continued a pattern of lavish travel and high-dollar events last year, using campaign funds at luxury resorts and to pay for several outdoor adventures — including another trip to shoot feral hogs from helicopters in Texas.

@europesays My, my. Well, the Patriot has proven itself, even against Russia's unstoppable hypersonic missiles.
I wish I had been on the team at Raytheon that designed it. I'd be feeling real good.

@hrefna "So-called" is the important part.
@aggualaqisaaq What the hell did they expect? Seems to me the U.S. has shown remarkable restraint here.

@Walrus I do by spoofing my browser fingerprint. But about a week ago, Google started detecting my untrackable fingerprint and refuses to show videos. Hahaha. Everything loads but no video. If I switch to a trackable fingerprint, everything works. Bye, bye, YouTube. It's been nice know'in ya.
when i was told a kabillion of years ago to try out Google Chrome the first thing that came out of my mouth was:
Why would I want Google to know everything i do on the internet?
people were like, butButBUT "DO NO EVIL"
yet here we are with Google doing every evil they can get away with; from recession-by-mass-layoffs, to killing adblockers & now with this new DRM #enshitification, "Web Integrity API"
from now on, when people call me a Luddite, am gonna take it like a g'damn badge of honor
@darkware@infosec.exchange Yeah, I recently lost access to YouTube. I've obfuscated my browser fingerprint for a long time. In the past week, YouTube stopped showing videos. If I enable standard fingerprinting, it works again.
So, no. Yet another Google offering bites the dust. But Dailymotion works fine. Buhbyee YouTube.
People on Mastodon are smart. So it figures they'd do the smart thing and politely ignore this post. ;-)
@mcnado It is criminal. It just has to be prosecuted.
@tofugolem I wouldn't worry if I were them. People aren't going to switch and mess up their baked goods over a silly boycott.
Same as the Bud Light thing. Guys just have their wives buy it and hide it. They're not going to give up their favorite beer.
@godzero @not2b @abbynormative Yup. Got my latest booster at the end of November. 4 weeks later, caught my second bout with Covid. (First was two years ago). I'm over it and testing negative again.
I'm guessing it was the JN.1 variant that's surging right now. It's too new for the boosters to cover.
