One of the things a jury pool can actually do is say “no, this is too fucked up and I absolutely won’t find a Food Not Bombs volunteer ‘guilty’ of feeding people.” Pool of 15, not a single person even willing to consider it.

@rhaen Exactly. FT8 and similar modes is two computers communicating. It's interesting to show what's possible with radio but there's no skill involved and quickly becomes boring and silly to waste your time on. This is just my opinion, of course. (I was into FT8 and FT4 for about six months before I realized I was wasting my time on a technological curiosity.)

@rhaen No doubt. Well, I say tough. I like RTTY, PSK31, and Hellschreiber. Oh, and CW of course. ;-) I guess that makes me an old-fashioned curmudgeon.

@Giliell @christa @sohan Yes, and it's a spiral that's hard to reverse.

People know that accident statistics clearly show that the heavier vehicle usually wins in an accident. And makers of SUVs emphasize this, pointing out the thickness of the doors and how many layers of steel there are, etc. My friend's Hyundai Palisade SUV is like that. She has a 1 year old insulated in a crash-proof child seat in the middle of the vehicle and the doors are like a foot thick. It's a huge SUV yet passenger space is cramped because of all the armor around you. This is going to be difficult to undo because people want to protect themselves and their children, and they're driven by fear. Economical operation isn't even part of the equation.

@Laplantgenetics Back when my wife and I kept chickens we also kept a few geese. Geese don't play. Lol.

@rhaen I'm a CW guy and yes, QRP is fun and adequate most of the time. For DXing, not so much. Path loss over an 8,000 mile circuit is usually high. And if you're after rare DX, there's always a pileup. However, 100 watts is usually sufficient if you're persistent and use good tactics. I haven't run legal limit for almost 30 years and don't miss it.

@Giliell @christa @sohan I see this all the time here in West Virginia and I asked people about it. They want as much steel between them and other people as possible. They'd drive a main battle tank if they could.

@lovelylovely Well, "Florida Man" implies that there must be a "Florida Woman".

@sohan Don't worry. The Chinese will fill that need before long and US automakers will miss the boat again. The Arizona desert will be filled with unsold 6 ton SUVs.

Americans: please give us an affordable, practical, small EV with decent range

American car companies: here’s a $70,000 EV truck that weighs 6 tons lol

<zero EV trucks are sold>

American car companies: wow americans aren’t ready for EVs

Snapchat has signed on in support of the horrific Kids Online Safety Act

Just FYI. Keep in mind that the requirements of this act could basically end the Internet as we know it, ultimately turning it into a China-style government system with all users' activity being linked to their
government IDs, and vast new opportunities created for personal information breaches. If you're OK with that under one party's administration, consider what the OTHER party could do with it. No matter where you stand politically, it's a train wreck for the Net, and it will make things more dangerous for children, not safer.

Every time I post about a victory, some helpful soul feels the need to explain to me why it is hollow or incomplete or they just don’t trust it and surely it will come to nothing.

Thank you, kind sir, for saving me from the moments of joy that I need in order to keep fighting.

And sure, Trump fans may cosplay civil war a lot, but when the governor of Texas is openly defying the federal government, and the former president is calling on states to send their national guards to help Texas stand against the federal government — and 25 states have pledged to actually do so — that’s not cosplay anymore. This is a real threat.
