@newsbot Yes, his constituents here in West Virginia wouldn't like to be reminded that he's a Democrat.

@EugeneMcParland Well, he's doing what he was hired to do, maximize cash in pocket for shareholders. Hundreds of thousands or millions of ordinary people like me put him in as CEO to do exactly this.

I don't like it. It's not how companies were run in the 1960s when I first got into investing. But it's how big corporations operate today.

The ability for many millions of ordinary people, single-moms without a lot of cash, to invest in the market, through platforms like Robinhood, have created this. Today's shareholders want their return, or else they'll fire him and get someone who delivers.

I don't want to worry you uneccesarily, but the smattering of stories on the new #avianflu strain that are creeping into the media is starting to look like the drip drip of stories in January 2020 before the acceleration of #Coronavirus.

Now it may be I/we are just more aware of such stories now, and of course the #pandemic has changed much of the infection environment but we have also have been warned another #pandemic is almost inevitable...

so is this the first sign?

Phone calls with Mom.
“What are you doing?”
“Taking a walk.”
“It’s late. Did you bring pepper spray?”
“I couldn’t find it so I brought oregano.”
“Are you planning on getting attacked by a pizza?”
“No one plans on getting attacked by a pizza. It just happens.”

@loganfive Hah! You are very fortunate. Enjoy every minute.

My mom was very much like yours. I have to credit her with my wicked sarcastic style and deadpan delivery.

But I'm old, my mother is long gone, and I must sadly admit that when I was younger I was an idiot, full of hubris, and did not appreciate her nearly as much as I should have.

I'd give a lot for a re-do. We'd have some badass conversations.

Looking at the pictures of snowy I-5 over the transverse ranges suddenly reminded me of a YMCA trip to Disneyland, where our bus broke down on the return north and we all piled into a couple of open stake trucks (!!) with our duffle bags packed around, and a few open sleeping bags covering on top of us all, that night in the winter chill. I was about 12, and somebody stole my Avon Hawaiian White Ginger perfume creme pot. I still remember, whoever you are.

NWS Los Angeles: "A winter weather advisory was added for the Santa Monica mountains (for elevations mainly above 1500 feet) through 11 pm, where a dusting to 2 inches of snow is likely. #LArain #LAWeather #cawx" #CAwx #LosAngelesCounty #VenturaCounty #snow

@malwaretech Hah. I felt the same way long ago in my teens and college years.

Also nominated: Evan Osnos wrote this New Yorker feature about superyachts, which gives jaw-dropping, blood-boiling details to support this gem of a yachtsman's quote:

“If the rest of the world learns what it’s like to live on a yacht like this, they’re gonna bring back the guillotine.”

@kennyc Yes. The Electoral College was an innovative solution to the real-world problems of running a democracy in a large country in 1785 where communication between two points took weeks. It also tried to mitigate inequalities between the states.

In today's world of instant communication, the slow comms problem doesn't exist. Today, modern manipulated mass media has turned the Electoral College into a liability because bad actors have learned how to manipulate it. The inequalities between states is basically moot today because states are not the sovereign entities they originally were. So yeah, it's an obsolete liability.

I need a plugin or app that shows me how far I get down my home page here before squirreling off of some post and forgetting to go back and finish scrolling.

@lauren Glad to hear there was no damage. Snow must have been spotty. Someone posted a video of light snow on the ground at Venice Beach.

@lauren Glad to hear it. NWS forecast showed 50 knots which is where things start breaking.
