I think it would really help more Americans understand the gravity of what has been going on if media stopped using phrases like “reverse the results of the election” which is not a thing, or “overturn the election”, (also not a thing), and started using the language the rest of the world uses: attempted coup.

It’s not “reversing” or “overturning” an election; it’s ignoring the results of an election and installing a dictator through fraud, threats, and violence, ending democracy.

@kb9ens Sure it will. It's a bit over 1/4 wave on 160 meters. It's all electrically bonded for lightning protection, so yeah, should work great. More broadband than a dipole because the element is so fat. A single wire from the base of the statue (top of the pedestal) down into the water should be an adquate counterpoise.

The one sticky part is the statue is well grounded so you may need a gamma match up the side a little ways. Lmao.

Why didn't I think of this? ;-)

@TruthSandwich Exactly. The "war of words" is extremely important and the dishonest Republicans have been doing an outstanding job at this. They've co-opted words like freedom, liberty, patriotism, conservatism, and made them their own to bash people over the head with. They know that Americans love those words so they use them constantly.

Any kind of social program is tagged with the words socialism / communism. And they know the vast majority of their supporters can't define either one. They're just "bad words".

@TruthSandwich Exactly. USians have long been confused about the various systems and sometimes even conflate systems of government with economic systems.

I saw a good example during Obama's second run for president when the news interviewed a ranting woman who called Obama a nazi and a communist in the same sentence. To her they were just "bad words".

Having a government that looks out for people, provides some safety nets, and prevents megacorporations from eating their customers alive is not socialism. It's just good government.

@fatsam Indeed. Unfortunately, we're seeing a demonstration of this playing out right now in the U.S.A.

A leaked group chat run by New York Young Republican Club President Gavin Wax featured support of race realism, Zyklon B and oven jokes, defense of Richard Spencer, and slurs.

Participants included white nationalist James Allsup & Proud Boy Shane Trejo.

@Charlie It's true in some cases. Back in my sailing days, when heading across the Caribbean between Florida and Central America, if possible we'd time it to cross just behind or after a hurricane. After a hurricane passes, it leaves the sea dead flat just like this photo, only out in the middle of the ocean.

(This is good for motor vessels. Nice calm ride. Not good for sailboats because there's no wind.)

@LindaCollins11 Yes, but if I play fast and loose with your medical records, throw them in the trash without shredding, or otherwise reveal the information, it's a federal crime and I can be prosecuted.

So where's all the high-minded intention of HIPAA? We can just ignore it?

@sergio_101 Yep, I was there searching and pouncing on 40 and 20 meters. The high Kp index (5) didn't have any noticeable negative effect on propagation, at least from my observations.

The SKS is great because it seems to bring out a lot of members I've never worked before.

I participated in the Straight Key Century Club sprint last night. It's a monthly informal contest for straight key morse code. It was super fun! I will do this again, but will do the following:
- Run QRP. They have a QRP class. I ran 10 watts, and was getting good reports everywhere
- Pay attention to the letter after the member number. Those are multipliers.
