@tokensane @Carlabela1 @KiffinEileen Yes, the "trickle-down" argument, and the coat-tails argument, and the "rising tide lifts all boats" argument. All of which are false.

@KiffinEileen Well, the funny thing is that 60, 70 years ago and before, you could depend on Americans voting their pocketbook. This is good. This keeps the 1% oligarchy from forming. Tax cuts for the rich or for corporations was not a thing.

But Americans stopped doing that during my lifetime. Instead of voting self-interest, they now vote ideology. Ideology can be manipulated. And so we have poor people voting for tax cuts for the rich because the party they support ideologically is operated by and for the rich.

We'd be much better off if people understood what was going on and voted their self-interest like they always used to.

@MediaLawProf I hope some intrepid lawyers are watching this and considering a lawsuit, and that an intrepid federal prosecutor is considering a civil rights case.

Nice thing about a lawsuit is the burden of proof is lower than in a criminal case and the allowed discovery broader. And, evidence uncovered in a lawsuit can be used later to bring criminal charges.

The only fix for this police department and city government is to bleed out their budget with a massive lawsuit. It's the only way to get their attention.

The 98-year-old Kansas newspaper co-owner whose home was raided by police two days ago has died. marionrecord.com

@futurism Good, because what's called AI today isn't. It's fancy pattern matching and extrapolation that seems like intelligence. It ain't.

@oliphant Hah. Hahaha. Amazing. Can this person read? Have they looked at the nutrients in non-meat items? This is not hard to do. It's printed on the label of most foods.

Is this person not aware that animals like humans and cows can make protein out of non-protein nutrients? Where does she think meat comes from? The steak she's eating was once grass, alfalfa, etc.

The disturbing thing is that these people walk among us every day and they vote.

When the story of the Iran-Contra affair broke in November 1986, government officials continued to break the law, shredding documents that Congress had subpoenaed. After fourteen administration officials were indicted and eleven convicted, the next president, George H. W. Bush, who had been Reagan’s vice president, pardoned them on the advice of his attorney general William Barr. (Yes, that William Barr.)

🤣😂😅🤣😁😆🤣🤣😁😂🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣MAGA and Republicans all upset about Jack Smith going through Trump Direct Messages. “Oooohhhhh First Amendment.” 😫😫

But were fine when they were going through Hillary’s emails.

@kevinrothrock Ahh, so the munitions have started to arrive and are in service. Good. The Russian soldiers won't like this at all.

@DemocracyMattersALot Good deal. I've said since the Jan 6 insurrection that the RICO Act should be brought into play.

This is appropriate because these are criminal organizations in cahoots with corrupt politicians -- exactly what the Act is about.

@JenWojcik I wish I still had the one my mother used 60 years ago. It was excellent. I've never gotten a cast iron skillet to behave like that one did.

Gave my son the cast iron frying pan that I was given when I left home. It was a wedding gift to my great-grandmother, now passed to the 5th generation. :)

@obeto Nah, Aldean lives in New York City. The small town he sings about only exists in his imagination.

@ai6yr @rchusid A bit of a drag that it's BS. Controlled magnetization would be handy for mechanics and engineers. Oh well. Fun to imagine.

@rchusid Medical doctor? Doctors have to study chemistry and basic physics in med school. Sounds like she didn't.

An observation on how #Mastodon is growing 👀

Over the past month, multiple journalists from top outlets have contacted me related to content I’ve shared.

While this was not uncommon on #Twitter when I was active there, it’s relatively new for me in the #fediverse. I suspect this suggests professional news outlets are becoming more comfortable here & posts have increasing impact. Good.

I have no idea why I felt the need to put this out here but here it is.

I'm telling people to buy up whatever grain based food you want to have for IDK six months. I figure in about six months is when it really hits hard.

The grain in Ukraine that Putin destroyed was going to feed a lot of people who really need it.
