Also, here’s an electric bus in Fairbanks, Alaska, that worked fine at -40F below zero.

It never got close to 40 below during the Texas freeze, yet we still lost power (and WATER pressure - toilet didn’t flush) for days.

The batteries on the bus were apparently winterized, telling me they actually can work even well *above* 0F in Texas 🙄

@philip_cardella If you want to matter the most, move to Wyoming. They're the most important people in the country.

@StillIRise1963 Prison systems can handle this easily. He's not the first high-value prisoner and not the last they'll deal with.

But there is one difference here that's interesting. Prisons and jails have procedures in place for prisoners who have done terrible things and are in danger of being killed by other prisoners. They do not have procedures where millions of people are contemplating how to attack the prison and the system and break the prisoner out to free him. Making it more complicated is the fact that a lot of law enforcement and their own staff are ardent Trump supporters. Many of them would sacrifice themselves for Trump. They can't trust their own people.

Lindsey Graham must explain what happened on that first golfing trip when he flipped from Never Trump to Only Trump.

Just a few weeks after starting schools in Kentucky are closed due to widespread illnesses.

Good thing everyone has thrown away their masks and decided #covid doesn’t exist anymore, eh.

#Tornado warning near #Toledo (well, south of Toledo, closer to Sandusky). Seeing lots of reports here on the Fediverse of power outages and storm damage. #MIwx

So looks like I'll be building my Fediverse presence from scratch now that I've lost my followers after moving instances (my fault entirely).

If you happen to see this, please boost so my old friends can see where I am!

@mimarek The people have always had a voice, they just rarely use it, or aren't even aware they have a voice. The FCC explicitly invites public comment on everything they do.

A Fox TV broadcast station license renewal is facing an uncommon level of scrutiny at the Federal Communications Commission, with the FCC taking the rare step of allowing broader public input on a petition to deny the station's renewal application.

The proceeding concerns WTXF-TV in Philadelphia, the only Fox-owned TV station that's currently up for renewal. An advocacy group called the Media and Democracy Project (MAD) petitioned the FCC to deny the renewal, arguing that Fox "has repeatedly aired false information about election fraud, sowing discord in the country and contributing to harmful and dangerous acts on January 6, 2021."

@ai6yr I see 83.7 GW for ERCO so yeah, they're close to the edge.

@PDFlynn Yeah, and I know some people who breathed a big sigh of relief when Trump did that. Lol.

Looks like TFG's royal progress to Atalanta is a police escort extravaganza worthy of Cleopatra.

Who is paying for all those police? Who authorized that expense of tax payer money?

Whoever authorized that should himself be indicted for waste of public assets.

Attempt at networking post!

Hi! I would love to meet and talk to more people in #dataScience #statistics #stats #pydata #dataViz etc etc

I have a Phd in #appliedMath and I work in #productAnalytics

I attend my local American Statistical Assoc meetings sometimes, but they are rare.

I also helped start an R User Group once, (but haven't used R in more than 10 years), and ran a Big Data reading group in #pdx

Please boost 😀

@AstroHyde Yes, a mechanical calculator. I don't recognize that one but it looks similar to a Monroe-Matic that I used back in the last century.

It's 1964 and you need to multiply two 4-digit numbers, and do it lots of times? Slide-rule gets you to 3 decimal places. Your book of log tables might help, but it's still slow. What if you want full accuracy? Do it longhand?

Use one of these. Chunka, chunka, chunka, chunka, chunk: answer.
